The snow capped mountains surrounding Cache Valley are just about ready for ski season. Utah boasts some of the best snow in the world, making skiing and snowboarding a popular winter pastime.
However, it is estimated that roughly 250,000 people in the US will visit the doctor this year with winter sports-related injuries. The most common winter sports injuries include sprains, strains, and dislocations. Dr. Hicken is happy to treat any injury you sustain while enjoying your time on the slopes but would like to keep you out of the emergency room as much as possible.
As the saying goes “if you fail to prepare, you will prepare to fail.” The same mindset applies when participating in winter sports. Before hitting the slopes, strengthen your core, legs, and back with an exercise regimen.
Here are some exercises to try at home before strapping on your ski boots. When doing any of the exercises, be sure to use proper form to get the best workout possible. These exercises should be done at least six weeks before tackling the mountain. But don’t stop there. Continue to do these exercises as well as other light, dynamic stretching when you aren’t on the mountain.

We hope this helps you get prepped and ready for the upcoming season!
